In January, aileron. held the first event of its “Unfiltered Insights” series, focusing on the industry of Banking and Finance.
We spoke with over 20 professionals across the leading financial institutions in Malaysia to gather their insights on various career tracks and shared their advice with over 100 attendees.
The central theme of the session was entry pathways into Investment Banks and Big 4 Firms upon graduation. Topics covered include the industry's overall landscape in Malaysia, comparison of every major MA program, introduction to TAS program and advice for interns/graduates.
Management Associate programs (MA) are the most common pathway for graduates breaking into investment banking; and is typically a competitive 2-year program with 3-8 rotations across departments. Through these rotations, MAs gain exposure working on a wide range of projects and build a strong peer network.
On the other hand, Transaction Advisory (TAS) programs are almost exclusively housed within the Big 4 and are much more specialized. The work that fresh grads do depend on their department; for instance, working on the Deals Strategy team may involve liaising with private equity firms to complete financial/commercial due diligence for a specific company.
Thank you to everyone who attended the webinar, and we’re glad to hear that most reviews found it to be informative. Participants were also keen to see a “Networking 101” webinar next, and that is in the development process; so stay tuned, and we’ll see you at the next event!
